Try SCUBA – 5 Mile Edition
Now if you are reading that title and thinking… don’t most people try SCUBA at 5 Mile… well… you might have a point. The thing is… this is a specialized 5 Mile Edition as in Summer Camp!
So 5 Mile where we hold a lot of the winter classes and try SCUBA sessions is also a Children’s Camp. During the summer, every week for 8 weeks they have a different set of boys and girls. One week is boys, next is girls, and so on. These weeks are quite interesting sometimes. The things those kids say are quite hilarious! Continue reading
Try SCUBA
Here we are toward the end of January and I’m here to tell you, it’s cold outside. Oh, that may not be new news if you’ve walked out your door any at all in the past couple weeks. What I’m actually here to tell you is even though we had to call off the New Year’s Day Dive, our 2018 dive season is in full swing.
Saturday, January 13, 2018
Two Saturdays ago we had our first Try SCUBA of the year. It was a chance for old and new divers alike to get their feet wet warm waters. It may have been a swimming pool, but needless to say, we were still diving. We had the Boyscouts join us as well as other potential divers and already certified divers. It was a fun and productive day.
While Grady, Dan, Chuck, Mark, Tori, and I were off at the pool with the Try SCUBA group, Deb was back at the shop teaching class. When the Try SCUBA session was over, then it was time for the pool class portion of the classroom. Deb has 2 new students along with 2 refresher students.
So all of this to say, our SCUBA season is off to a good start. In just a few short weeks the first group trip of the year will be headed to Cozumel. Happy Saturday and we’ll let the pictures do the talking. Enjoy!

Try it Tuesday – Neosho Project Graduation Style
Friday night May 16th Deb Weston, Rachele Lord, Jason (JT) La Due, Mark Willoughby, Lee Lake, and Danielle La Due met at Extreme Sports Scuba around 10:45 pm. Why so late you may ask? It was a night dive of sorts, but only in a swimming pool. Is your interest piqued yet?
Neosho High School Graduating class of 2014 was having their Project Graduation at the Neosho Y and Extreme Sports Scuba was invited to be there. Continue reading
Extreme Sports Scuba Try it Tuesday – May Edition
Here it is the middle of May and we’re finally starting to approach warmer weather. This month we were hoping that we could have a Try it Tuesday outside in an outdoor pool, however, if you’ve paid any attention to the weather here lately, we’ve been on a roller coaster of hot and cold so we chose to have it at 5 Mile Camp again for good measure. Turns out we made a good call since the high for the day hit around 58 degrees. Brrrr, that could have been cold in an outdoor pool.
So Tuesday night we met up at Extreme Sports Scuba and headed toward 5 Mile Camp for the May Try it Tuesday. The great part about it is if you come try it and you get hooked now, you don’t have to worry about waiting months to get certified. Nope, if you come try Scuba and enjoy it, we’re now in the warmer months and are just waiting to get you certified. This is the perfect time to come out and Try Scuba Diving!
Try it Tuesday – Sunday Edition – Church Youth
Sunday, April 6th we had a special edition of Try it Tuesday, the Sunday edition.
Back in March, there were plans made to have Christ’s Community United Methodist Church Sunday youth group out to 5 Mile Camp pool for a special edition of Try it Tuesday for the youth. Well, Mother Nature had other plans and we were snowed out.
Plans were finally rescheduled for the youth to come out on Sunday, April 6th so Extreme Sports Scuba and the Church youth group loaded up and headed out to 5 Mile Camp to try Scuba Diving in the indoor pool.
Extreme Sports Scuba arrived at 5 Mile before the youth group so it was time to set everything up so the youth didn’t have to wait for that to be done. Then it was time to hang out and chill until they arrived. The pool was a little cooler than it has been coming in at 81 degrees. Still, very nice, especially with Mother nature not sure what she wants to do with the weather outdoors. Continue reading
Come Try Scuba – Try it Tuesday – February 2014
Tuesday night’s Try it Tuesday had quite the turnout! Turns out there were about 50 participants who came out to brave the experience. And I say brave, it is a lot of fun, so if you haven’t been able to make a Try it Tuesday yet, you are missing out!
A Try it Tuesday is a great way to get your feet wet and experience a sport you may not have thought about trying prior to now. The best part is you get to try it out with some great instructors and experienced divers around who will work with you and help you get the full experience. Now if you get into a bind, the pool is only 6 feet at its deepest so you just stand up and you are back above the water. Plus it is in a heated, indoor pool so you get to beat those wintertime blues of sitting around the house waiting for warmer weather!
If you missed the February Try it Tuesday but think you might be interested, Good news for you, there is a Try it Tuesday scheduled for March 11th. One of the best ways to keep up with the upcoming dates is to “like” Extreme Sports Scuba Facebook page and check the website frequently for updates on upcoming events.
We’d love to meet you so make plans now to come to the next Try it Tuesday! Now for your viewing pleasure some photos from Tuesday night. Enjoy!
Try it Tuesday – Nevada Boy Scout Edition
Tuesday, January 21st was a busy day for Extreme Sports Scuba. Grady & Deb participated in the business expo going on at John Q. Hammons during the day, then Aerielle Cupp relieved Grady so that he could meet Dan La Due, Doug Lord, Mark Willoughby, and Nicole Willoughby at the shop to gather up equipment and head to 5 Mile camp for a special Try it Tuesday for the Nevada Boy Scouts. Chris Parrish met us out there for extra help as well.
Grady gave the Nevada Boy Scouts a brief introduction while equipment was being set up then the boys were allowed to get in the water. Doug was the lead diver in the water with Mark and Chris as his backups.
Once all the boys were fitted for equipment they went over the basics and stayed in the shallow part of the pool to make sure no one had any questions. Continue reading
Try it Tuesday – January 2014
Tuesday night was the first Try it Tuesday of 2014 and boy was there a GREAT turn out! The unofficial count was 16 who came to try scuba diving out and 18 certified divers who came refresh their diving skills.
As a reminder, a lot of people who have been invited out ask about pool conditions, don’t worry, the pool is a lovely 86 degrees. It’s very nice, especially this winter while we are all cooped up indoors. Continue reading
